This is a small box you can put on a sangh, derasar, upashray or Jain centre website. It shows today’s Navkarsi, Porsi, Sadh Porsi, Purimaddh, Avaddh and Chauvihar times for one city, with sunrise and the tithi at sunrise, on that city’s own clock. It changes to the new day by itself, so there is nothing to update. It is free and needs no sign-up.

Choose your city and the colours below, check the preview, then copy the code and paste it into your page. Most site builders (WordPress, Wix, Squarespace, Google Sites) have an “embed” or “custom HTML” block for this. The box sets no cookies, stores nothing in the browser, runs no analytics and loads nothing from any other company: the box and its scripts come from this site, and the times are worked out in your visitor’s browser.

The code ends with one line of credit under the box, “Pachkhan times by Nidarshana Vedh Jain”, linking to the page for your city with the next two weeks of times. Please keep that line. It is the only thing we ask in return, and it is how other sanghs find the widget.

The times follow the sunrise-based rules set out under how these times are worked out: Navkarsi is 48 minutes after sunrise, Porsi one prahar (a quarter of the daylight) after sunrise, Sadh Porsi one and a half prahars, Purimaddh two, Avaddh three, and Chauvihar is sunset. The box uses the same calculation and the same rounding as the Navkarsi page for each city, so the two show the same times to the minute. Sanghs round these times differently and some add a margin, so where your own sangh publishes its times, members should follow the sangh’s times. The box says so in small print.

Frequently asked questions

↳ Is the widget really free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no fee and no limit on the number of pages you put it on. We ask only that you keep the one-line credit under the box, which is part of the code you copy.

↳ Does it track the people who visit our site?

No. The box sets no cookies, stores nothing in the browser, runs no analytics and loads nothing from other companies. The day is worked out in your visitor's browser from files served by this site, and the city is never passed on to anyone else.

↳ Why might the times differ from our sangh's printed card?

The box counts from your city's own sunrise for today and rounds a time that ends a pachkhan up to the next minute, with sunset rounded down. A printed card is often made for one city or a rounded date, and many sanghs round to five minutes or add a margin of their own. Where your sangh publishes its times, follow the sangh's times.

↳ Our town is not in the list. What can we do?

The box covers the cities that have their own Navkarsi page, because the credit links to that page. For any other place, the Jain panchang widget takes a latitude and longitude, and the pachkhan time calculator gives the times for any city and date. You can also write to [email protected] to ask for a city to be added.
